"On Site"
Onondaga cultural centre.
Situated in the park along the shoreline of Onondaga Lake, this site has been highly contested in its histories. To create a cultural center that does not freeze histories into a single point, we should then aim to acknowledge and incorporate all cultural narratives across its history into the present re-conditioning of site.
Looking at the physical, historical, and social context, we begin to understand “site” in its necessarily broad context.
The project provides space to stage cultural activities at any scale necessary. From the individual scale to the crowd, one may find the appropriate stage for their activities. Proximities become a way to easily incorporate new spaces depending on its use while also giving awareness of other activities so as to prompt curiosity and exploration between scenes. Using the intervention in a spatially malleable way here ensures a spontaneous and anticipatory physical space for culture to come.
